8,353. That’s how many Kentuckians have put their name on our petition to put cannabis decriminalization on the Kentucky ballot — as of this morning.
It’s easy to scroll past a number like that. So let’s talk about what it actually means.
It’s not just a number
Every signature is a real person who stopped, read what we’re asking for — adults 21 and older able to possess up to one ounce and grow up to five plants — and said: yes, I want Kentucky voters to decide this.
Behind that number are 7,989 shares. That means thousands of people didn’t just sign — they told their friends, their family, their coworkers. And 230 comments, many of them personal stories about why this matters: veterans, patients, parents, people with old charges still following them around.
Why a petition, if Kentucky voters can’t put it on the ballot directly?
Good question — we get it a lot. Kentucky is not a citizen ballot-initiative state. We can’t collect signatures and force a vote the way some states can.
So why do it? Because legislators listen to numbers. When we walk into Frankfort and say 8,350 verified voters want this — and that number grows every day — that’s harder to ignore than a poll. It’s a list of real constituents.
Our proposed constitutional amendment is simple: adults 21+ may possess up to one ounce and cultivate up to five plants, with the General Assembly regulating production and sales. The petition is how we show the demand is real.
What your signature does
- It counts. Every verified signature strengthens the case we bring to legislators.
- It spreads. When you share after signing, you average more than one new signature per share — that’s how we got here.
- It builds the movement. Our site now represents 55,000+ supporters. The petition is the front door.
What’s next
We’re not done. 8,353 is a milestone, not a finish line. Here’s how to help today:
- Signed already? Share it. One share is worth more than you think: https://change.org/LetKentuckyVote
- Haven’t signed? Add your name and tell us why in the comments — your story matters.
- Want to do more? Follow the campaign at legalizekentucky.com and watch for our October booth schedule.
Every movement starts with people willing to put their name on something. 8,353 of you already have.
Let’s keep going.
