10,000 Signatures: Kentucky Wants the Vote

October 12, 2026

We did it.

10,056 Kentuckians have signed our petition asking the General Assembly to put cannabis decriminalization on the ballot.

That’s 10,056 names — 10,056 real Kentucky voters — saying the same thing: let us vote.

What 10,000 signatures means.

Kentucky is not a ballot-initiative state, so this petition doesn’t force a vote by itself. It exists for one reason: to prove, with names on the record, that the people of Kentucky want this question answered at the ballot box. Ten thousand is the loudest proof we’ve had yet.

Every one of those names is a registered Kentucky voter telling the General Assembly: we want a constitutional amendment that lets adults 21 and over possess up to one ounce of cannabis and cultivate, harvest, and store up to five plants at home for personal use — free of criminal punishment.

Why this fight matters.

A Kentucky Policy Institute report found that between July 2002 and June 2022, 303,264 Kentuckians were charged with cannabis offenses — roughly two people every hour for twenty years. About 59% were convicted. Those charges fall hardest on low-income Kentuckians and Black and Brown Kentuckians.

One in ten of the 3.1 million criminal charges filed in Kentucky during that period was cannabis-related. That’s the reality behind every signature.

What happens next.

Ten thousand is a milestone, not a finish line — and the petition is still open. If you haven’t signed yet, add your name: change.org/LetKentuckyVote

If you’ve signed, do the two things that move this from paper to policy:

  1. Share the petition with three friends who haven’t signed. Most people sign because someone they trust asked them to.
  2. Call your state representative and senator and ask them to support our bill. Leave a message through the legislative hotline at 1-800-372-7181. Tell them you’re their constituent, and you want Kentuckians to get the vote on cannabis decriminalization.

Ten thousand signatures got us heard. The next ten thousand gets us the vote.
