The Road to 10,000: What Your Signature Builds

October 8, 2026

As of tonight, 9,494 Kentuckians have signed our petition asking the General Assembly to put cannabis decriminalization on the ballot.

That means we’re 506 signatures away from 10,000.

Ten thousand isn’t a magic number. But it is a milestone worth talking about — because every name on this petition is proof that real Kentucky voters want this question answered at the ballot box.

Here’s what the petition asks.

A constitutional amendment, modeled on HB225 (https://legalizekentucky.com/the-bill), that would let adults 21 and over possess up to one ounce of cannabis and cultivate, harvest, and store up to five plants at home for personal use — free of criminal punishment. The General Assembly would set the rules to implement it.

Here’s why it matters.

A Kentucky Policy Institute report found that between July 2002 and June 2022, 303,264 Kentuckians were charged with cannabis offenses — roughly two people every hour for twenty years. About 59% were convicted. Those charges fall hardest on low-income Kentuckians and Black and Brown Kentuckians.

One in ten of the 3.1 million criminal charges filed in Kentucky during that period was cannabis-related. That’s the reality behind every signature on this petition.

Here’s what you can do.

If you’ve already signed, share the petition with three friends who haven’t. Most people sign because someone they trust asked them to.

If you haven’t signed yet, it takes about a minute: change.org/LetKentuckyVote

Leave a comment after you sign. Comments help the petition reach more people.

And keep watching the count. We’ll announce it here when we cross 10,000 — because it’ll be the closest thing to a vote Kentucky voters have gotten so far.
