Derby City Flea Market

We need your help!

The Kentucky Cannabis Freedom Coalition (KCFC) is seeking financial assistance to maintain our booth at the Derby City Flea Market, a crucial hub for educating Kentuckians about cannabis laws and garnering support for reform. Our presence at the flea market every weekend serves as our primary base of operations, reaching an anticipated weekly attendance of over 15,000 individuals. This consistent outreach is vital for our mission to inform the public about relevant laws and assist them in applying for medical cannabis cards.

Our organization, the Kentucky Cannabis Freedom Coalition, is the largest cannabis activist group in the state, boasting over 55,000 followers. Our core mission is to change cannabis laws in Kentucky and enlighten the public about the "benign, therapeutic, and economic advantages" of cannabis. We believe that by regulating cannabis for adults over 21, Kentucky could experience significant societal benefits, similar to other states that have seen positive impacts from legalization.

Financial support is critical for several reasons. Firstly, maintaining a consistent presence at the Derby City Flea Market incurs costs, including booth fees and materials for educational handouts. For example, a 10x10 spot at a vendor event can cost $150, with additional costs for electricity, tables, and chairs. These expenses, though seemingly small individually, accumulate over time, and our regular weekly presence makes sustained funding essential.

Secondly, our efforts go beyond simply staffing a booth. We are dedicated to educating the public about the current cannabis laws in Kentucky, which include the illegality of recreational use and limited legal status for medical cannabis. There is an ongoing debate about decriminalization, and many see potential benefits and challenges. We strive to combat misconceptions about cannabis use, such as the idea that it is a "gateway drug" or that legalization leads to increased use among teens. By providing accurate information, we empower Kentuckians to make informed decisions and advocate for change.

Thirdly, financial assistance directly supports our advocacy efforts. We aim to engage Kentuckians in the process of changing cannabis laws. This includes encouraging individuals to contact their local, state, and federal representatives to express support for reform. We also highlight the importance of supporting pro-cannabis legislation and participating in public demonstrations to raise awareness and pressure policymakers. Our work also involves assisting Kentuckians in applying for medical cards, which directly improves their lives through access to medical cannabis.

Lastly, your financial support sends a powerful message of solidarity to the community. It demonstrates that businesses and individuals are willing to stand up for their beliefs and support the cause of cannabis legalization. We are committed to using all contributions responsibly and effectively, ensuring they make a tangible difference in the lives of Kentuckians. By working together, we can achieve our shared goals of a more just and compassionate cannabis policy in Kentucky.
